How to review footage with your coach
Choose frames, compare attempts and keep useful practice notes.

Watch the whole jump first
Do not start with a single still. Watch the approach, takeoff, flight and exit, then return to the moment you want to discuss. Frames before and after it help explain the movement sequence.
Point out what you noticed
Identify a specific moment, such as the first frame of ice contact. Say if the skate is hidden or blurred. An unclear detail is a reason to check the recording, not evidence of a technique error.
Compare two attempts
Check the camera angle and scale. Side and diagonal recordings can make the same movement look different. Clips filmed from the same position are easier to compare.
Discuss which changes relate to technique and which may come from the recording. One successful attempt does not establish consistency; that takes a series of observations.
Keep a short note
Write down the moment you reviewed, what the coach suggested and which recording to compare at the next practice. An ordinary notebook works well.
The coach decides on technique, exercises and training load. Clarify an unclear task before the next attempt.
